"The Balcony"

"The Balcony" by Jean Genet was the first production I worked on at UCLA, as a first year MFA student. The research aspect was actually frustrating because it seemed like whatever key word from the show I typed into Google, I would get sent into a porn site. I guess it was pretty close, since I was designing people in the brothel. But all in all it was a lot of fun because most of the costumes had to be built from scratch on a low budget. Thanks to the awesome drapers and seamstresses at UCLA who helped me realize my designs!

The "Judge", "Executioner", and the "Thief" (brothel client, brothel's pimp, and prostitute)

The "General" and the "Horse" (brothel client & prostitute)

Beautiful designs. It seems you must have an amazingly disturbed imagination. I wonder if every day you go through intense periods of anger, joy, and sorrow. Your friends must think you're quick a piece of work.

Keep up the good work. :)
